Important Work Calls for Big People

Letter published in the Toronto Star, November 22, 2014:

Re PM's jab at Putin brings chill to talks, Nov. 16:

Never send a boy to do a man's job. Prime Minister Stephen Harper may pick up political points at home with his undiplomatic attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 Summit.  On the international scene, it is an unfortunate and possibly costly gaff.

Putin is someone Canada will deal with in regard to Arctic sovereignty and oil rights. Harper's finger in Putin's eye will not help negotiations.

Here's how I imagine what Lester Pearson would have said; "Vladimir, you have an opportunity to become peacemaker in Eastern Europe. If I may suggest how you might go about it . . .
